SONNETTE
The Jewellery studio 'SONNETTE' creates jewelry and objects in silver and brass.
'Cold and yet warm'
Working with metal is a cold and yet warm process that embodies a different kind of beauty.
I hope to convey the vibrancy and warmth contained in small pieces to many people and strive to capture the beauty and naturalness of the craft.
조진현
CHO JIN HYUN
I capture the everyday peculiarities I encounter through drawing and writing, weaving them into stories inspired by old memories, imagination, or nature. These narratives are then expressed through my textile creations.
I create interior objects and fashion accessories, with a focus on blending yarns with different textures and matching colors, which evoke warm emotions. In doing so, I playfully pave the way for knitting and crochet to integrate into our lives and expand the spectrum of my work.
Moonlight Chaconne
The moonlight cyclically shows different faces, marking the passage of day, night, and seasons. The moon, with its myriad faces, rhythmically reveals its expression through time and space as light is revealed and darkness fades. Bright and dark, dazzling and faded, the moon's backside radiates a life force of immeasurable depth, even though it's not immediately visible from earth.
In October 2023, as we pass through the season of ipdong and sosŏl (the 19th and 20th solar term according to the lunar calendar, and the onset of winter), "Gallery SIL" presents Moonlight Chaconne, a collaboration between Sonette and Cho Jinhyun. The chaconne is a story of delicate, rhythmic flows, in which the coexistence of light and darkness, based on the motif of moonlight, is resolved in metal and fiber.
In this collaborative exhibition, the two artists unite materials of disparate physical properties and showcase a variety of textural harmonies using different techniques. The delicate gentleness of cold metal and the clarity of warm thread (fiber) are combined in monochromatic, wearable neckpieces and unconventional necklaces, as well as wall decorations and objects. In Moonlight Chaconne, darkness is a time of precious waiting to send light into the distance, and the moonlight that gradually becomes clearer in the darkness is interpreted as the crystallization of the abundance that quietly overcomes that waiting.
Through experimental works that embody the light and shadow of the waxing and waning moon, we hope to tell the story of the coexistence of intersecting emotions in our lives. The value of trembling in tranquility, restraint in abundance, and the coexistence of these emotions are presented to you in an atypical variation.
