FLOWERBERRY KIMDAJUNG
POP FLOWER series
2023.09.27 - 10.24
Gallery SIL[室]
Over the years, I have collaborated on floral projects with both domestic and international fashion brands and companies. As a solo artist, I have been exhibiting and drawing my Pop Flower series.
I am Kim Dajung, owner of the floral artwork brand “Flowerberry”. As a spatial designer I enjoy the challenge of reinterpreting and rearranging spaces. By combining various colors and textures of materials I create unique objects.
I always find excitement in infusing colors and merging shapes. The processes wherein the materials around me metamorphose into something distinct from my initial ideas, and the encounters stemming from this transformation, bring me as much joy as Napoleon discovering new worlds. Everyday materials, as commonplace and unassuming as air, serve as a source of adventure.
I can't wait to see what other strangers I'll meet today.

The unfamiliar child I got to know
POP FLOWER series, yarn, wood, FLOWERBERRY KIMDAJUNG, 2023.
I vividly recall the day when I stumbled upon Gallery SIL.
It was a hot summer afternoon on the bustling Gyeongridan-gil, yet an air of melancholy and despondency hung around. As I trudged up the hill, I caught my breath. I aspired to transform this petite gallery into a space where the artworks would evoke unique emotions in some and ignite whimsical imagination and joy in others.
Pop Flower are similar to trees. We feel safe and comforted when we see trees bigger than us, standing tall and steady. I can't help but smile when I look at the flowerberry, which seems to offer warm words, and think of the comfort it brings to me and others.
How many times a day do we find ourselves smiling at unexpected moments?
It is my heartfelt desire to bring you laughter and joy.
To me, space and color are as natural as everyday elements, just like air, and a source of adventure. Thinking of flowers that bloom in imaginative spaces with a sense of adventure and wit, Pop Flower was born, and I hope it will become a friend that brings us comfort in various shapes and colors.
When seen for the first time, it instills a sense of curiosity, making you wonder, 'What is this?' And when you look closer, it brings a smile, creating spaces filled with such wit is what brings me the most joy.
I also aim to bring a sense of humor and enjoyment to the viewer, as these works evoke special emotions for some and witty imaginings for others.
