Artist Hwang Jae Won directs all questions to his inner self

whenever he is fogged by anxiety.

And he finds the answers in his past.

In the process of sculpting one’s ego, every moment is unconsciously woven and accumulated under the concept of time.

We are the end products of these hours piling on top of one another.

​

The moments spent on molding one’s ego could be dismissed as the elapse of time, but they leave a path paved by one’s decisions and actions. And those would not have been made alone.

Every individual encounters a myriad of unexpected relationships

that influence their choices and actions. Each decision changes them in 

a way that makes them who they are. Such reforms are assembled piece 

by piece through time, eventually giving birth to the final product that

is “oneself.”

Artist Hwang observes and tells a story of this notion of time,

founded on countless connections.

​

The observation is translated through knitting, with yarn as the central material. Yarn symbolizes a compression of time, and knitting each strand together illustrates continuity and interwoven relationships.

​

There are no boundaries between past, present and the future – each is connected to one another. Yarn thus is an unquestionable choice to convey this particular quality of time.
